Yes, the Project Work is mandatory for TUM students and it is calculated as part of the total score. If you are not a TUM student, feel free to work with it, but it is not required (it is optional for non-TUM students). Project Work is mandatory only for TUM students. This is a self-paced course, so there are no explicit deadlines. The green indicator next to the message that the tests passed on is the automated feedback you get in every programming exercise. It is a normal behaviour of edX and the Progress section is not updated immediately after you do the exercises (including quizzes), but it takes some time (e.g it may update your progress after one day).
